President's Message August 2010

Brigitte Lundrigan, Site SoCal PresidentDear Fellow Site SoCal members,

Our second annual Summer Magic on the Big Bay was a resounding success and I want to thank you – our Site Southern California community - for coming out in full force and supporting our event.

We all work so hard nowadays that it’s easy to sometimes forget how fun our industry is, and what an outgoing (and talkative!) group we are. Besides, in what other industry would the schedule for the day include “Cocktails at 10:45... A.M.”?! A big thank you to Connie Reeves, Geraldine Gatehouse, Darrell Benning, Elaine Kady, Nikki Nestor, Rich Wise and Madelyn Marusa. They had the vision and put in the hard work to bring it all together and I am humbled to be a part of their team.

The Young Leaders event held just prior had a terrific turnout with almost 50 registrants. Yet another way that Site Southern California is committed to giving back to the southern California meetings community is to ensure we are providing education and networking opportunities for each and every member. For those of you that have young leaders in your organization, I strongly encourage you to have them attend one of our Young Leader events. The minimal cost will come back to you several times over. Watch for details for our Fall Young Leaders event to be coming out soon.

While it may not have been that sunny this summer for those on the coast, members of your dedicated board managed to find some sun in Palm Springs at a planning meeting at the host of our 2010 Holiday Event, the Riviera Resort & Spa. More details will be forthcoming in the next few months so be sure to stay tuned to the website. The Riviera looks amazing and their team is very excited to be welcoming our group.

Our final Site Southern California educational meeting for 2010 will be held October 28th at the Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad, California and I look forward to seeing you there!

And one final interesting tidbit from Oxford Economics USA “The average business in the U.S. would forfeit 17% of its profits in the first year of eliminating business travel” – so fellow hospitality professionals, keep those person to person encounters going, keep traveling and building relationships and here is to a prosperous Fall for us all!

Cheers,
Brigitte Lundrigan
