ASTA has created the Joining Forces Travel Industry Coalition, a group of travel companies committed to providing jobs to veterans and military spouses. Companies pledging their participation include Amadeus North America, American Express Consumer Travel Network, Avis Budget Group, Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, Enterprise Holdings, Hertz Corp. and Orbitz Worldwide.

The ASTA endeavor is an outgrowth of the Joining Forces Veterans Hiring Initiative, a program led by first lady Michelle Obama and second lady Jill Biden. To date, coalition companies have committed to providing nearly 3,000 jobs for veterans and military spouses by 2014, ASTA said. Some of the jobs are portable, enabling military spouses to retain their jobs when they move to another base.
